A vulnerability has been identified in xcftools, which could be exploited by attackers to cause a denial of service or execute arbitrary code. This issue is caused by a buffer overflow error in the "flattenIncrementally()" [flatten.c] function when processing a malformed image e.g. via the "xcf2pnm" tool while using the "-C" or "-O" options, which could be exploited to crash an affected application or execute arbitrary code.

xcftools version 1.0.4 and prior

Solution

VUPEN Security is not aware of any vendor-supplied patch.
