Title : GIT Long Pathname Processing Multiple Buffer Overflow Vulnerabilities VUPEN ID : VUPEN/ADV-2008-2306 CVE ID : CVE-2008-3546 CWE ID : CWE-119
Rated as : Moderate Risk
Remotely Exploitable : Yes Locally Exploitable : Yes Release Date : 2008-08-06
Technical Description
Multiple vulnerabilities have been identified in GIT, which could be exploited by attackers to cause a denial of service or compromise a vulnerable system. These issues are caused by buffer overflow errors in various functions e.g. "diff_addremove()" or "diff_change()" when processing overly long pathnames when running "git-grep" or "git-diff", which could be exploited to create a denial of service condition or execute arbitrary code.
