Title : Linux Kernel "vmsplice" Multiple Local Privilege Escalation Vulnerabilities VUPEN ID : VUPEN/ADV-2008-0487 CVE ID : CVE-2008-0009 - CVE-2008-0010 - CVE-2008-0600
Rated as : Moderate Risk
Remotely Exploitable : No Locally Exploitable : Yes Release Date : 2008-02-11
Technical Description
Multiple vulnerabilities have been identified in Linux Kernel, which could be exploited by local attackes to bypass security restrictions and obtain elevated privileges. These issues are caused by errors in the "vmsplice_to_user()", "copy_from_user_mmap_sem()", and "get_iovec_page_array()" [fs/splice.c] functions that do not validate user-supplied data before being used, which could be exploited by malicious users to read or write arbitrary memory data, and execute malicious code with elevated privileges.
