Multiple vulnerabilities have been identified in IBM Lotus Notes, which could be exploited by attackers to disclose sensitive information, bypass security restrictions, cause a denial of service, or take complete control of an affected system.

The first issue is caused by buffer overflow errors in the Wordperfect (.wpd), Ami Pro (.sam), MS Word (.doc), FrameMaker (.mif), Applix Words (.aw), Applix Presents (.ag), Dynamic Link Library (.dll), MS Rich Text Format (.rtf), and Portable Executable (.exe) file viewers, which could be exploited by remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by tricking a user into opening a specially crafted file.

The second vulnerability is caused by an error in the Execution Control List (ECL) mechanism which, in specific situations, prevents the Execution Security Alert from being presented when either a Notes database (.nsf) or Notes template (.ntf) attachments are involved.

The third issue is caused by insecure permissions being set on the shared memory created by the application, which could allow malicious users to disclose sensitive information.

The fourth vulnerability is caused by an error when processing specially crafted SMTP messages, which could be exploited by attackers to crash a vulnerable application.

The fifth issue is caused by a buffer overflow error when processing specially crafted HTML messages, which could be exploited by attackers to execute arbitrary code by tricking a user into forwarding, replying with history, or copying a specially crafted message to the clipboard.
