Remotely Exploitable : No Locally Exploitable : Yes Release Date : 2007-10-09
Technical Description
A vulnerability has been identified in util-linux, which could be exploited by local attackers to bypass security restrictions. This issue is caused by errors in the "check_special_mountprog()" [mount/mount.c] and "check_special_umountprog()" [mount/umount.c] functions that call "setuid()" and "setgid()" in the wrong order without checking the return values, which could be exploited by malicious users to potentially gain privileges via helpers such as mount.nfs.
