A vulnerability has been identified in Yahoo! Messenger, which could be exploited by remote attackers to cause a denial of service or take complete control of an affected system. This issue is caused by a buffer overflow error in the Get Version Info (YVerInfo.dll) ActiveX control when processing malformed data passed to the "fvCom()" or "info()" methods, which could be exploited by remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by tricking a user into visiting a specially crafted web page.
Note : The affected functions can only be called if the control is run from the yahoo.com domain. In order for this vulnerability to be exploited an attacker would either have to leverage a cross-site scripting attack in the yahoo.com domain, or be able to control the victim's DNS resolution for the domain.
