Gentoo has released security updates to address a vulnerability identified in File. This issue is caused by an error in the way file processes a specific regular expression, which could be exploited by attackers to exhaust all available memory resources and create a denial of service condition by tricking a user or an automated system (e.g. AMaViS) to open a specially crafted file with a large number of line feed characters.
