Two vulnerabilities have been identified in Apple Mac OS X, which could be exploited by attackers to cause a denial of service or potentially execute arbitrary commands.

The first issue is due to errors in the "GetSrcBits32ARGB()" and "InternalUnpackBits()" functions when processing a malformed PICT image, which could be exploited by attackers to crash an affected application or potentially compromise a vulnerable system by tricking a user into opening a specially crafted image via an application linked against QuickDraw.

The second issue is due to a format string error in the Software Update application when processing files with a specially crafted file name, which could be exploited by attackers to execute arbitrary commands by tricking a user into opening a malicious file.

Affected Products

Apple Mac OS X version 10.4.8 and prior
