Rated as : Moderate Risk
Remotely Exploitable : No Locally Exploitable : Yes Release Date : 2006-06-13
Technical Description
Two vulnerabilities have been identified in Microsoft Windows, which could be exploited by local attackers to obtain elevated privileges or cause a denial of service.
The first flaw is due to a buffer overflow error in the "MrxSmbCscIoctlOpenForCopyChunk()" within the Client Side Caching (CSCDLL.DLL) and the Server Message Block Redirector Driver (MRXSMB.SYS), which could be exploited by malicious users to execute arbitrary commands with SYSTEM privileges.
The secondf issue is due to an access validation error in the "MrxSmbCscIoctlCloseForCopyChunk()" within the Client Side Caching (CSCDLL.DLL) and the Server Message Block Redirector Driver (MRXSMB.SYS), which could be exploited by malicious users to cause an affected system to stop responding.
