A vulnerability has been identified in Macromedia Shockwave Player, which could be exploited by remote attackers to take complete control of an affected system. This issue is due to a stack overflow error in the ActiveX installer that does not properly handle overly large values passed to certain parameters, which could be exploited by attackers to execute arbitrary commands by tricking a user into visiting a malicious website with Shockwave content that prompts the user to install the player.

Affected Products

Macromedia Shockwave Player version 10.1.0.11 and prior

Solution

The vendor has fixed the issue in the Shockwave Player ActiveX installer.
Note : since the vulnerability occurs in the installer, no action needs to be taken by users.
