Title : F-Secure Anti-Virus Buffer Overflow and Security Bypass Vulnerabilities VUPEN ID : VUPEN/ADV-2006-0257 CVE ID : CVE-2006-0337 - CVE-2006-0338
Rated as : Critical
Remotely Exploitable : Yes Locally Exploitable : Yes Release Date : 2006-01-19
Technical Description
Two vulnerabilities were identified in various F-Secure Anti-Virus products, which could be exploited by attackers or malware to execute arbitrary code or bypass the scanning feature.
The first issue is due to a buffer overflow error when processing specially crafted ZIP archives, which could be exploited by malware or attackers to execute arbitrary commands and take complete control of an affected system (e.g. by sending an e-mail containing a malicious ZIP file to a machine being protected by an F-Secure Anti-Virus product).
The second issue is due to an error in the scanning feature that does not properly handle malformed RAR and ZIP archives, which could be exploited by malware to bypass the scanning functionality.
