Ubuntu has released updated packages to correct multiple vulnerabilities identified in Kernel. These flaws could be exploited by local attackers to cause a denial of service. The first issue is due to an error in the stack segment fault handler, which could be exploited to cause a kernel crash. The second flaw resides in the "tiocgdev" ioctl call and in the "routing_ioctl" function, which could be exploited to destroy file descriptor structures and crash the kernel.
Affected Products
Ubuntu 4.10
Ubuntu 5.04
Solution
Upgrade the affected package to version 2.6.8.1-16.23 (for Ubuntu 4.10), or 2.6.10-34.6 (for Ubuntu 5.04).
