Debian has released a security patch to correct two vulnerabilities identified in gzip. The first flaw is due to a race condition error in the file permission restore code, which may be exploited by a malicious local user, with write permissions, to gain read or write access to files of other users. The second vulnerability is due a directory traversal error that occurs when gunzip is used with the "-N" option, which may be exploited by attackers to create files in an arbitrary directory. For additional information, see : VUPEN/ADV-2005-0460
