Two vulnerabilities were identified in Mozilla Firefox, which may be exploited by remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands. The first flaw is due to an input validation error when processing specially crafted JavaScript code included in the "src" parameter of an "IFRAME" tag, which may be exploited to conduct Cross Site Scripting attacks. The second issue is due to an input validation error when handling the "iconURL" parameter of the "InstallTrigger.install()" function (called when installing firefox extension/theme add-ons), which may be exploited via a malicious web page or email to bypass the security restrictions and inject arbitrary JavaScript code in the context of "chrome", which could lead to a system compromise.

Update - The Mozilla Foundation patched (partially) this vulnerability on the server side by adding random letters and numbers to the "install()" function, which will prevent the public exploit from working.

Affected Products

Mozilla Firefox version 1.0.3 and prior
Mozilla Suite version 1.7.7 and prior (affected by the CSS issue)

Solution

Upgrade to Firefox 1.0.4 or Mozilla Suite 1.7.8 :
http://www.mozilla.org/download.html
Or disable JavaScript, or disable the "Allow web sites to install software" option [Tools - Options - Web Features].
